December 31,2003 is the day I will declare FIRE. It will take 3 months to receive my first pension check. I have planed well ahead. I have enough spending money to last the full three months.

I will now only work jobs I choose to. If I choose not to work, I will live cheaper.

I have some work to do on my spending habits. The only reason I did this well is because I began saving very early. I did develop some bad spending habits along with my good saving habits.

But because I have only a mortgage, and this is on my vacation home, I can wipe my slate clean and start out FIRE the right way.

I got here by being fortune enough to have a job with a pension. I started my IRA with my first job, so I have that as a safety nest. In spite of down markets, it continues to grow, because I continue to add to it each year. I made this a priority always.

So I guess I can honestly say I saved and lived well. I just want to continue to live well on less.
