I am surprised no one asked at the beginning - you are getting other peoples' experiences in other places. Having lived in Central PA and currently living in Colorado, I wouldn't have even thought you needed a sprinkler system.

I have had a sprinkler system in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and now Tennessee. My brother, in Western Massachusetts, is considering installing one. I don't know of any state in the union where they wouldn't be appropriate, depending on local rainfall patterns.

Also, where I live, the more water you use after the base, the higher the unit price.

That has not been true anywhere I have lived. Although we did have drought conditions here a few years ago and they asked people to stop watering their lawns, which we did.
