I am talking about all those bikes that have been modified by owners. These modified bikes elininate pollution equipment and increase noise.

Ever see a modified (tuner) Honda car cruise by? They can be loud and usually do not meet pollution requirements. Are they in for major noise control efforts? Why not?
Ever have to listen to an 18 wheeler as it decelerates from speed and has those superbly loud aftermarket exhaust pipes large enough to engulf a large dog? Are they in for major noise control efforts? I'm guessing not.

New cars are coming out that will easily carry 5 people and get 70 mpg or more.

That doesn't mean they will be carrying 5 people though. All it means is it is possible. On any average day one biker does less harm to the environment driving their bike than just about any car driver does. And if both the car and the bike both attain 70mpg I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say the bike's ecological footprint would still be much less than the car's.

So why attack bikes and only bikes? What's your real beef with them?
