I called the state's tax help line but that was unfortunately a low yielding call. I think I've resigned myself to having to do more paperwork and filling out a return.

I had no W-2s at all for 2000 because I didn't work. All my income was cap gains/dividends reported on 1099s. By the flowchart I'm considered a resident of MO because I lived there for more than half a year (because I was going to school). I just hope there won't be a problem later on because I also declared myself a resident of Michigan at the time I filed that return. According to my calculations I owe something like $150 worth of MO state taxes but because I paid more than that on Michigan taxes I don't owe any taxes to Missouri and therefore (I hope) no penalties or interest.

I didn't attend a state school so my tuition was not dependent on my residency status.
