I checked and I don't have Reave available as a bonus power. I think it's because I killed off Kaiden(?) in a prior game. I took Energy Drain for this character and that's proven to be somewhat useful after getting my shields depleted by either being out in the open or throwing a Nova after a charge.

I tried out the Grall Spike-thrower and didn't like it, the spread is just too small and precision aiming isn't what I want to worry about when I'm totally exposed right after a charge (keep in mind that I'm playing on a console and aiming with the thumb-stick is a bit more challenging vs. using a mouse.)

I also tried the Geth Plasma Shotgun, which looked promising since it's power was close to that of the Claymore, and you get 5 shots. But, the spread is smaller (not as small as the spike thrower) and I was finding that I had to shoot a lot of things twice to kill them. The big huge one-shot kill blast from the Claymore just suits me better so I'm willing to live with the weight. I just wish I could find something comparable that could fire a second shot w/o reloading.

I've taken most of the skills that cut down on recharge time, plus the perk that improves carry weight, so I'm still in pretty good shape even w/ the Claymore. The main limiter is how fast my squad's powers recharge since that limits how often I can use a combo. I'm wondering if their equipment load affects their recharge rate as well. It doesn't indicate this on the load out screen, but I'm thinking I should try ditching their backup weapons (that I never use) to see if that seems to help.
