I could move to Texas and enjoy a lower cost of living, but I won't get paid as much, so it would be kind of wash. I could sell my modest house in the Bay Area and buy a McMansion in Texas. But then, I'd have to live in Texas.

The kind of people who go for arguments like the one the greyling posted are the kind of people who are attracted to Texas. Even at ten times the cost of living, California would be a bargain when you factor in the cost of being surrounded by millions of selfish pricks.
