I disagree -- increasing deposit insurance and decreasing the premiums that banks pay is a recipe for disaster, unless the OCC really tightens the screws of oversight on banks. The FDIC is already underfunded and would be bankrupted by even a default at even a midsize regional bank.

What do people get so annoyed with splitting up one's deposit into multiple accounts? Especially when there are holding companies that will do this for you.
