I don't believe in picking a stock for a year, much less deciding to do that at the first of the year.

That said, I think that the following biotechs have promise: CELG, NBIX, ALKS, and PGNX. All have drugs in the pipeline, including a vaccine for prostate cancer. These are all Cramer's picks, although I pride myself on having bought the first 3 before he mentioned them.

I mention these because I think they are relatively long term holds - perhaps 3-6 months.

Current portfolio:

AFFX
ALKS
AMD
CELG
CEPH
CLZR
CUB
DO
ENER
GFI
GG
GLG
GOL
GOOG
GRP
HMY
HUM
ISRG
JOYG
LEND
MDG
NBIX
NMTI
RGLD
RVSN
SNDK
TIE
TM
TTM
VISGD
X
ZEUS

I will probably buy PGNX this afternoon. Most of these stocks came from a Mechanical Investing FastBreak system.
