I don't have a good reference, but I did go to our local crafts shop and purchase a color chart of all the embroidery floss. It was cheaper than a paint chip pack and they can match any color. This way, I can hold colors (or floss) next to each other and see what works. I usually try to duplicate a color (or a tone of the same color) in each room. For instance, the wall in the living will be the same color as the trim in the dining room which I'll pull into the bathroom on the cieling or in towl colors. That way, there is variation, but it all seems to flow.
