I don't know if iTunes still encodes the files with DRM or not…

Not for almost two years now.

EMI agreed to let Apple sell songs from their labels without DRM in May of 2007. In January of 2009 Apple announced that the other record companies had also agreed to drop DRM, and by April DRM was gone from all the songs on iTunes.

I assume you are using iTunes as your music management software…

I am. Amazon's MP3 Downloader app automatically adds Amazon songs to iTunes. They've done a decent job of making it almost as easy as buying directly from iTunes.
