I don't know much about United's problems. But since I live in the Philadelphia area, whose airport is dominated by US Air, I have followed US Air pretty closely. That airline is clearly in its death throes, and its death is being hastened by new competition from Southwest, which recently starting serving Philadelphia and has just announced that it will start service in Pittsburgh, another airport dominated by US Air. I would not book an important flight on US Air.I lived near Raleigh in North Carolina when Southwest started serving RDU airport a few years ago. I watched Southwest hasten the demise of Midway Airlines, a regional airline that was based out of RDU. What Southwest is doing to US Air right now is exactly what they did to Midway a few years ago. It's like watching the same movie a second time. Jon
