I don't know whether this is relevant to your situation, but the June issue of Kiplinger's mentions that two affiliated lenders are rebating the guarantee and origination fees on Stafford loans.

The lenders are Medfunds ( and A+ Funds (; both are divisions of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, but they can lend to students at any school.

In addition to rebating the 1% guarantee fee, they rebate the 3% origination fee on subsidized loans to graduate students, and also to undergraduates if the loan total is more than $6,000.
