I don't know why Equifax refused to clean up her report. But I hope they put some controls and checks to make sure this never happens again.

I can't speak about Equifax, but I have first hand experience with some larger corporations and decision making.

Everything is about auto processing.

Chances are no one at Equifax ever bothered to read her replies, maybe there were not in white envelopes, maybe they paper she wrote on was a non standard size.

There are machines that can open mail, separate all the pages within it, and scan them into a machine. If she did something silly like hold the pages together with a paperclip then it could fall into an exception bin, and if that desk was not propperly staffed then her page might never get read and processed.

Corporations do this to save money.

Final punitive damages will be balanced against the risk of this happening again and if they are high enough Equifax just might hire a couple more people to staff that desk.
