I don't think I'd change the ring. I think I would look at the ring and be reminded of how much effort and love went into getting that ring. I'd think of how much my sweetie must truely care for me to have tried so hard and it would make me happy. I think I'd think of how my sweetie upon realizing I was so upset by him forgetting to mention that friends were engaged that he threw away his big plans that he spent ages on to quench my fears and propose then and there.

I am not in your shoes so maybe that isn't how I would react. I don't have an engagement ring... it is kinda fuzzy whether or not we are engaged at all :) .
