I don't think it's a new scam. It could have been a keying error, or it could be that the OP has poor handwriting and that the people keying the amounts made the best they could out of them. Well, I do have lousy handwriting but I can read these checks, particularly since they were mailed with the due notice that has the amounts typed.ed
