I ended up using Consumer Credit Counseling (CCCS) and quit when I was $2,000 shy of payoff and paid the remainder myself. Now out of debt for 6 months (woo hoo!) I have no marks from CCCS on my credit report. Am I lucky or is this how it works? That's how it works. CCCS (and other services) don't actually put a mark on your record. What happens is your CREDITORS can (and some/most will) put a notation that you are using a counseling service. This temporarily dips your score or makes you look unfavorable to new creditors. BUT, as soon as you are out of the program, the notation is supposed to be removed.Good job being debt free!Ishtar
