I find banks don't do a very good job when it comes to anything more complicated than a simple checking account. In fact I find they often struggle with that. I really threw them a cerve when I wanted to reorder checks once when I was almost out of them! I had to order them 4 times and threaten to close my account before the finally got them to me.

I hate banks.

Discount brokers are easy to find. I have accounts at Datek and Waterhouse an have been pleased with both. If you like to go into an office to make deposits or talk to a person, then Waterhouse is better.

When you open the account just tell them you want to transfer your holdings from your other account. They will do the rest. You don't even have to talk to the old broker.

Good Luck!
