I finished my first quilt ever two weeks ago. It was about 3x4, a baby quilt for my sister. I spent about 5 hours a day on it it for a week, so that's around 35 hours total, including the cutting and piecing (my favorite part). I did all the piecing by machine and quilted by hand. Honestly, I didn't feel like the quilting took as long as I thought it would. It really depends on the quilting pattern you choose. I just used the 1/4" outside of the seam method. And with a quilt that small, I know I could have done it a lot faster if I'd quilted by machine.

I taught myself by checking out a few books from the library, and looking for some tips online. I spent a lot of time going through these, and I studied some quilts I own before I started.

P.S. I finished my second one last night. I'm having too much fun with this!
