I first shot an AR-15 a few months ago. A friend of mine bought one that he built himself (saved a couple of hundred dollars). We shot it at a gun range. Nice rifle. The caliber was a .223. Small, but the muzzle velocity of the bullet was around 3300 ft/sec, or around 2200 mph, or 3 times the speed of sound. One hec of a kick for a small caliber round.
