I had a Citibank checking account for a while because I was in the NYC area on business very frequently for a while. Having a "local" ATM card was useful - I knew I could get access to my money in the area I was traveling frequently. When I stopped travelling, I opted to just keep an account with a local bank that just happens to have a branch downstairs.

Why even bother with a debit card?? I carry two, but only because the credit union(s) ONLY offer a debit card and have stopped issuing the traditional ATM-only variety. I don't use the debit feature at all....

I like the a) float of money, b) accounting , and c) rebates!

Call me a fool.... but I will stick to the credit cards and just pay them in full each month. (you can do that with your Citibank Checking/Visa VERY easily! No delay in posting the payment whatsoever...)
