I had a client who AG Edwards portfolio consisted of three American Funds mutual funds (A shares), not bad but then the bond side of the portfolio was High Yield Bond fund (B Shares) where the annual costs were in excess of 1.75%

See, that's the problem with the good ol' commission structure. There are so many ways for people to be taken advantage of. You hear all the time that you should work with somebody you trust. Well, how do you know you can trust them if you don't have a finance degree? Seriously, if you learn enough to be able to tell if an advisor is taking you for a ride or not, you might as well do it yourself.
