I have a 55" Vizio LED TV from Costco. Bought it about two months ago, so it might very well be the same model you're looking at. Paid about $800. I'm rather happy with it. I'm actually typing on it as we speak. It is my de facto computer monitor in my office/mancave. It has all the gaming systems hooked to it, and we use it to stream television/movie content. It's not currently hooked to cable/sat, because we have that in the living room. It's plenty capable, if you're not worried about 3D.

But seriously, compared to the 58" Samsung plasma in the living room (which cost about twice as much), this one holds up quite well. For the money, it's hard to beat. They also had a 60" (or 65"?) for under $1k, which, depending on your room size, may also be worth considering.
