I have a Huskystar 215 (they don't make it anymore so not sure if this is usefull or not :).. ) that I have had for about 10 years now. Works great, mechanical, about 16 stitches. THe button hole functions got a little wacko recently.I got a new machine for Christmas, a bit of an upgrade but no where near a splurge. It is a bottom of the line Brother. It has about 50 different stitches and came with about 7 different feet. About the only think I have noticed that bothers me is it doesn't like changes in thickness. For example while heming the bottom of a baby sleep sack it did not want to continue when I got to a seam (4-6 layers of fabric). Here is what I bought:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JQM1DE/ref=oh_o02_s00_i...Brother CS6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable 60-Stitch Computerized Free-Arm Sewing Machine I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend. Janome makes a good machine, I love my Janome Serger. If Money were no object I would go with Janome or perhaps Pfaf.... Good luckNicole
