I have also heard/read very recently that you can still be buried at sea. There are rules about how far away from shore you have to be. I'm also pretty sure you don't have to be embalmed if you don't want to. Sorry, I don't have any more specific information on this. Definately worth some research. Off topic comment: This "public health" arguement for embalming sounds fishy to me. If you are 6 feet under, the likelihood of spreading disease to someone on the surface seems pretty remote to me. Pets are buried all the time au natural. I've never heard of a disease out break caused by this.Lara -Toxicologist and gardener, evidently less afraid of rotting things than most :)
