I have an electric deep fryer that I use all the time for lots of different things. I tried using oil in a cast iron skillet/dutch oven, but I just don't have the patience/attention span/experience to get it right.

With the electric deep fryer, it's just a matter of setting it up, setting the desired temp, and waiting until the green light comes on to start deep frying. I have a cheapo Farberware that costs about $30 and it does the trick (much better than I can do the "old-fashioned" way!).

I'll have to say, when I first got it, I was a bit skeptical about the contruction -- it seems a bit flimsy and light-weight with thin metal. But, with the thin metal, it heats up fast. It also has a breakaway magnetic attachment for the electric cord. It's a safety feature that I wasn't sure I wanted, but it's fine now that I got used to it.
