I have been in Panama since Christmas day and I do not find it cheap to live here. I guess if you live away from Panama City you might find a deal on land and housing, but food, medicine, gasoline is as much or more than in the US. I haven't seen a doctor, but I have bought some medicine. Some of it I did not have to see a doctor for but would have in US, but otherwise the prices are very similar. My understanding is that doctor's visits are much cheaper. That would certainly be important to a retire early board. Other products like sunscreen, face lotion, are high. Grocery products are high. Many of the nicer malls do not have sales and products are high. Panama City is expensive. And I have been all over the country where there is not a lot to buy. Shopping is quite hard here.I don't get this as a good place to retire. But then I have excellent medical insurance in the US so maybe that is a very important factor that I don't need.
