I have CD's with Providian bank and historically they have paid some of the highest rates.

I have read recently that Providian has suffered financial setbacks and would like some insight as to how safe my money is with them. Should i think about moving the money when the CDs mature?

If the CDs are FDIC-insured, and your balance is within the limits of FDIC coverage, then you shouldn't worry about safety. Even without the FDIC, often banks which do fail still manage to sell off their assets to other banks, so your CD would just be transferred to the other bank in such a case.
