I have come back up on internet after a spate of traveling from Mallorca through Slovakia (Bratislava) to where I am now in an old industrial neighborhood of Budapest.Bratislavans were mostly sad that they are now trapped with the euro, although it is still viewed as helpful in attracting Austrians looking for bargains.Budapestans (?) mostly seem thrilled to have narrowly escaped switching from their cheap florints to the euro. USA prestige is rising here relative to the EU.My favorite piece of ironic statuary is in Liberty Square of Budapest, site of both the USA embassy and of the Soviet Union built memorial statue commemorating Budapest liberation from the Nazis by Red Army. Striding jovially up a walkway towards the soviet memorial is this life size statue:http://www.fotopedia.com/items/3vr5oqk54b0h1-mUFCg23rYCkof Ronald Reagan, in commemoration of friendship and "Mr. Gorbachev, take down this wall."Although no fan of RR, loved this.david fb
