I have gone more to the Heavy Pistols with my Vanguard and namely the Arc Pistol. Heavy for a pistol but lighter than most of the shotguns with a high rate of fire and decent damage out to medium and long ranges.

I thought about using a pistol - even the one that's basically a one-handed shotgun, but I really prefer the one-shot kill capability of the shotguns at close range. I decided to part with some of my hard earned credits and bought the Wraith from Spectre Requisitions. I think the weight is a bit lighter than the Claymore, it has only a slightly smaller spread, has almost as much damage when upgraded / modded appropriately, and most importantly, I get a second shot. So far I like it.

I seldom use my squads powers.

I primarily use them to take down shields and setup combos. Between those two things many of my charges don't require any follow-ups to finish off enemies. When I don't want to charge in yet, I can combine powers with Liara to use Pull / Warp or Singularity / Shockwave to thin out the crowd. I'm really hardly shooting anything at this point.

Okay, playing as a Renegade totally sucks. I've now killed not one, but two of my former friends. This is really depressing! Also, the story is so much better when playing as a Paragon - much more emotional / inspiring. Granted, I know the story already so it's going to be less impactful the second time around, but I'm really having a hard time identifying with my renegade Shepard. Finally, there's less happening in this game - ex: not meeting up with some of the same people I did when I was going as a Paragon. I think most of this probably has to do with the Renegade choices I made in ME2. Really, I think it's a much richer story when following the Paragon path through all the games.
