I have just been through one of these. Mine prevented any downloaded files from executing. Also attached files to email could not be found.

Antivirus and Malbytes anti malware found nothing. I tried to use Microsoft restore to go back before infestation, but that was blocked with an error message.

When I searched the error message on Google, that is when I found multiples of these "cleaners" that scan your computer and want $39.95 to remove the hundreds of faults they find.

Finally I ran AdwCleaner and it removed all the trash. No more problems.

I'm vary wary of Adobe and Java updates these days. I think some could be virus invitations masking as something useful.

Rule of thumb: always run AdwCleaner after a download.
