I have Office 2010. I'm not sure how 2013 is different, but usually the help item on Word will answer most of your questions.

You should be able to set the default storage location for Word files anywhere you like.

I would advise you not to uninstall and reinstall Word if you can possibly avoid it. Your card probably allows you to install Word three times. That comes in handy if you upgrade your computer or have certain kinds of work done. Save those extra installs for later if you can.

I'm not aware of a deaf setting, but my solution to software that talks to me is to turn the volume all the way down and ignore it.

Your library will probably have a nearly complete collection of books on how to use Word or Excel. They may be out of date, but that is a great way to check out their style and see if you can find one that suits your needs. The latest version can then be purchased or perhaps will be available used.

And note that Barnes & Noble Bookstores usually have a shelf full of these books and invite you to browse through them (while you enjoy a cup of coffee if you like).
