I have only been investing 2 years...still looking for MY style. Here is what I do...

I usually trade QQQ's. Not many home runs, but not as risky as individual stocks. But, I am always watching stocks. Right now some of the stocks I follow are CREE, HDWR, BRCM, ITWO. I tend to watch channels. Get to know the stock. Follow a few for a long period of time. For example, HDWR does not seem to do well with strong NAZ movements up. As a matter of fact, I hope it gets close to 10 or 11 again...then I am in. CREE, what can I say. This stock has been very good to me. Trades $18 to $30 OR SO. I got long 7/11/01 set my stop and watched it tank. I did set a 10% stop though. Now it is my bigest gainer in this up move. I bought ITWO, a lower priced stock. In at $14.75 then it tanked and I got stopped out today at $15.55. Once I had profit, I set very tight trailing stops because it isnt moving near as well as CREE. I have traded CREE 4 times now...3 were to the good. GET TO KNOW SOME STOCKS. Watch watch watch.

Where do I find my stocks to follow? This may be lame, but I get them from message boards. I do have a rule that says I cant trade a stock I get from a message board for 30 days. I watch it. Try and get to know it.

I also will buy into MI but I set stops and sell when I have a profit. Way against MI rules though. I have seen some of my MI screens be up more than 100% only to sell for a loss because I waited till the rebalance period. Be careful with MI. Not really good for small accounts. Commissions and teh spread will kill you.

This is an excellent board for a newbie IMO. The people here are very friendly and willing to help. They will also cheer you on. There are some very smart people that give of their time to help others. A great board!
