I have to admit; I might have a telescope now if I had chosen to buy an XT8. They do seem to be a fun telescope. Low impact on the wallet. I've seen all the tinkering that can be done with them at the forum for them. It seems the little tinkering makes them darn nice and looks fun to do. A fun telescope. And they really aren't too big.
About a year ago, I came close to buying one. I chose a pair of binoculars instead. I also had other uses for the binoculars too. A good terrestrial scope or binocular comes in handy on the prairie. Also, someone had stolen my spotting scope and I needed a replacement or substitute. It's fun having a pair of binoculars that I can see other galaxies with. Can spot M81 & M82 rather easily.
I can sure understand watching money closely on choosing a telescope. I don't know any investor who isn't having to watch money closely right now.
