I haven't weighed in yet, but since this is still up for comment, here's what I believe.

I do think it's extremely odd to describe a silver item as "metallic." It isn't incorrect in the sense that silver is a metal. But metals differ in cost, in appearance, in aesthetics, and it is weird to use such an all-purpose adjective instead of the one that is tailor-made for the job.
