I held back Gator.

Gator's birthday is September 28th. The cutoff, in NJ, is October 1st. He turned seven a month after starting first grade.

We may hold back Séamus. I say may, because we aren't sure what the freaking cut off is around here, it is some time in September. So if the date is Sept 30 we are holding him back, if it is Sept 1st, we aren't.

That said, I hadn't even considered holding back baby #2 who is due on July 21st.

At some point red shirting just gets silly. Also, its effects are not huge. They are just one of many factors.

I did like Gladwell's comment that the ones that are being red shirted are the ones with the least risk.
