I just have "regular" Discover card. Last year I got back over $300. Of course, we built a house and put lots of stuff on the card so that number is pretty high. For the past several years, I've been getting $100-$150 on normal purchases. We use it for everything, pay it off each month. It's free money, baby.

The platinum card gives you the option of "doubling" your cash-back bonus in the form of a certificate from certain vendors. I didn't see any of the vendors that were particularly enticing to me so I passed on it. I question the "value" of being locked in to merchandise from a limited catalog anyway.
