I know that AmEx has recently changed their fee structure, and I haven't had time to look into it too much, but right now I pay $55/year for the card, $45/year for the Membership Rewards program, and $35/year so my fiancee can have a card too.

I have the American Express Blue card. There are no fees of any kind for the card or the rewards program. It is a card on which you can carry a balance (which I do not) and they charge nearly 18% interest if you do carry a balance.

I read somwhere on MF that it takes more Rewards Points charged with the Blue card to get to your goal than using the AmEx cards with the fees attached, but it looks to me like all the points I accrue with any American Express card will go to the same rewards program, so I don't see a problem.
