I know you can contribute to your SEP IRA until the actual date you file your tax return, even if it's in August. But can you open one untilthe later, actual filing date or must it be opened by April 16th? I don't know any reason why not. It's not really a SEP IRA, it's a SEP contribution to a traditional IRA. If you already have a traditional IRA, you can make your SEP contribution to it; otherwise you can open one at any time.Phil MartiVITA Volunteer
