I know you lost your Dad last year, so I can see where you would be very protective of your Mom so I'm not really going to give advice on this just ask some questions and give you some info.
Where is your Mom cruising to in September? I ask because of Hurricane Season. :(
Is she going with someone or group that you trust or is she going on her own?
Did your Mom pay for cancellation insurance? If so, then she probably wouldn't lose any money by cancelling.
How long is the cruise. I'm just curious about that one. ;)
As you know, we're going on our second cruise next month (Not on Carnival thou) We did not even consider cancelling after hearing about the Triumph and we have cancellation insurance. I know these kinds of things are very rare as Tony has mentioned.
Anytime you have a large number of people in a relatively small area your chances of catching something are going to increase like on-board a ship but then you can also catch something at the grocery store. I have only sailed on Holland America Cruise line and they take every precaution to help keep people from catching things. They have people squirting hand sanitizer on your hands every time you enter the ship or food areas! I would imagine all the cruise lines are the same...but I don't know for sure. We took a couple travel packs of antibacterial wipes and wiped down our cabin as soon as we got there....just for good measure.
I've been spending an exorbitant amount of time on the http://www.cruisecritic.com/ forums and the senses is that when the Triumps sets sail again it will probably be the best time to be on it because everything will be redone.
We feel in love with cruising on our first trip two years ago and are very excited about going again.
