I like your style, SP. Simple things can bring as much pleasure as expensive things. The trick is to know which approach works best where and when.

As to "spend more even when they can't afford to do so," there are those who believe in the long run we will all be dead. Enjoy it now, and cut back if you have to. Saving for your heirs pays little reward. They may not deserve it anyway. You earned it. Enjoy it. (It's important to hit the right balance. Don't over do it either way.)
