I must say that after reading this hread that TMFOwl started I'm extremely disappointed. It all started from the following in another thread:

TMFAnnC wrote: Virgin data.

I replied: Besides, it's my understanding that a virgin is only virgin until she has been used.

Ann brought up the term "virgin" with respect to the new crsp data set and I wanted to reply to that. More specifically, my point was exactly that the crsp data was no longer virgin (as in the meaning that Ann undoubtedly had in mind) because it had been used. I actually thought about my wording for a long time and the difficulty was coming up with a term other than "used" that would describe both what happened to the data and what defines "virgin" in contrast to "non-virgin" in the usual meaning of the word. I ended up with a word (used) that better describes the former and if I offended anybody in the process I apologize for that. Such would never be my intent. The alternative words I considered was "massaged" but that would be even less related to the latter, or "penetrated", but that would hardly describe the former which after all this is all about. I would also like to point out that I wrote that a "virgin is only virgin" rather than a "woman is only virgin" exactly because I did not want to imply something for a woman, only the data. Moreover, people say "she" about many things, for example a boat without implying that a woman is a boat. I would say "she" about the crsp data set because it's extremely well organized, accurate, a pleasure to work with, and simply the best available.
