I paid $3.74/gallon on Sunday.

I drive a diesel car, but the price of gas (Petrol) in Ireland is approx EUR 1.63 per Litre which is slightly over $8 per US gallon.

And you guys think $3.74 is expensive .....

So how do we afford to drive with lower salaries than our US cousins?

Diesel is slightly less expensive (approx EUR 1.50/L) but much more economical.

We mostly drive smaller more economical cars in Ireland. My mid-sized diesel car can deliver 160 BHP and runs at around 39 mpg (US gallon). If I go easy, I can get this figure above 40. The manufacturer claims about 46 for mixed driving but I've never achieved that over any lengthy period.

There are smaller cars that will do much better than this.

So your gas price can double again and you will still find that you can afford to drive to Walmart ...
