I practice a wide varitey of prayers (I talk) and meditations (I listen). I'm especially fond of the hesychast technique of St. Gregory Palamas, in the "Jesus Prayer" from "Triads." I pray this on a LOT throughout the day. I pray this one so much only because I need it so much :-)
"Lord Jesus, Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
I also like the liturgical prayers of the Orthodox Church and reflection on the Westminster Confession of Faith. Literature from Alcoholics Anonymous is something I read every morning and evening as well as "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers. Prayer and contemplation regularly blend in my experience. Your mileage may vary regarding this. My favorite book concerning prayer is Richard J. Foster's, "Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home." This one, along with his "Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth" is a can't miss program to improve one's conscious contact with God.
