I quit full time employment with a utility company in 1999. I went through 18 months of COBRA and then went to individual health insurance coverage, which presently cost $580/month for me alone at age 57.

For the first two or three months, it seemed strange to be paying for my own health insurance. After that, it seemed strange that an employer would pay.
