I really doubt any results from surveys done - parents say that technology is what their kids need because they see the USE of technology in their workplace - or THINK that technology is needed.
HOWEVER
Did Gates or Jobs have technology in their houses or their schools?
Think about that. Those two did EXCELLENT in technology in their careers with their grade/high schools and households that did NOT have an iPad or laptop or whatnot!
Technology is not the panacea for education. What is the panacea? A combination of a good home, with parents that work with their children and a small classroom size that allows even bad or poor teachers to spend QUALITY time with the kids!

p.s. I grew up in a household without technology until I was 15 - then we got a Commodore, VIC-20.
p.p.s. I see my step-sons working with "technology" all the time - and they have to use it in school - and they don't know a hundredth of what I know. My step-sons are 14 and 20, by the way.
p.p.p.s. I had to teach the 20 YO step-son how to group songs on iTunes. WHY? Because, even though I was not brought up with technology, I was brought up to trouble-shoot and to look for answers.
