I recall several years ago standing in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC and reading the Gettysburg Address as well as Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address written on the walls. They are both incredibly inspiring speeches filled with great ideas and emotion. I remember thinking at the time: Lincoln didn't just read these speeches - he conceived and wrote them. How many politicians today do you think could have thought through these issues, captured such great thoughts, and written this stirring text? I don't think there are very many that could.
