I recommend a couple of books written by Churchill as a young British officer.

Good recs. I think I want to start by reading a good book about Winston and then I'll read something by him. As a loyal Mick and an amateur student of Irish history I've always had the impression that his views were not kind to the Irish, but the article from which I quoted in my initial post said he was in favor of Irish independence. So, we shall see... (Then again, maybe he just want to be rid of us...) But there's no doubt about what he did for Britain during WW2.
