I simply do not get how 20,000 more soldiers will make one lick of difference. It seems to me we only have two options: send in several hundred thousand more troops (which we don't have...but which we would need to patrol most street corners in Baghdad), or redeploy to focus on training Iraqi troops/police so that they could restore order.McCain's "20,000 more" proposition seems absolutely pointless. I used to admire the man. I actually voted for him in the 2000 GOP primaries, but...I'm sorry...he's lost me as a voter. He's morphed from "straight talk express" to "calculating fork-tongued politician." No thanks. I'm not buying it. I want the next President of the United States to be a straight talking, sharp thinking, problem-solving, cool hand...because we're in a helluva mess and we need leaders who can think their way out of a paper bag. McCain proved he isn't up to snuff.
