I think a couple of people have mentioned taxes. Southern Indiana isn't nearly as densely populated as Louisville and the taxes there are somewhat cheaper from everyone I've heard. My roommate who has just bought a small house here in Louisville even said he would consider moving to Indiana because the taxes are so much cheaper. Maybe he was exaggerating about how much cheaper it is, but it's probably worth looking into.

Personally, I like being here in the city where the traffic isn't nearly as bad and everything is close. I don't know what your commute is like in Chicago, if you have to go all the way downtown, use the train, or what. All we have for mass transit here is a bus system that I'm sure falls far short of what Chicago offers. Again, I don't know what you're used to, but just wanted to throw that out there.
