I think he's not concerned about whether he owes the money, but rather that it is now at a collections agency which puts his credit at risk. Correct me if I'm wrong here legalwordwarrior.

So I think the advice you're looking for is really how to get an agreement from the collections agency that you'll pay in full in exchange for this not being put on your credit report, or removed from your report if it is already there.

I'm no expert in this area but it seems most people recommend getting a signed agreement in writing from the agency before making payment to them.

If you want to get the insurance to cover it, that could get more complicated.
